Sikkim is a very small state in Indian union located above the West Bengal in the map of India. Sikkim treasures the natural beauty gifted by the nature and is one of the most visited tourist destinations in India. Sikkim is a nature’s paradise with high hills all around, chilled weather in winter and Rhododendrons in April and May. The fantastic scenic view gives a treat to your eyes. Here I am sharing all details that would help you in making an easy trip plan to Sikkim and know all about Sikkim tourism.
Sikkim is well accessible by train, road and airway from Kolkata and other parts of India. New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri in North Bengal is the gateway to Sikkim. If you are traveling by train from Kolkata or any other parts of the country, you are supposed to drop at New Jalpaiguri (NJP) station. If you are flying, Bagdogra is the airport near Siliguri to land. All buses from Kolkata takeokay you to Siliguri Tenzing Norgay bus stand or terminus. There are shared jeeps and taxis from NJP station, Siliguri and Bagdogra airport up to various destinations in Sikkim. Most of the traffic goes up to Gangtok and Pelling. Gangtok is the capital city of Sikkim and Pelling is another favorite destination of tourists.
Sikkim may be small in size but there are so many numbers of places of interests. There are tourist destinations in different parts of the state and it is not feasible to visit all the places at one go. You can make it only if you have got no time limit. One would require good number of days to explore all the places of interests in Sikkim. I must let you know that there are offbeat destinations too, if traveled; you would have a lifetime memorable experience. I would always suggest a tailor made holiday to Sikkim if you have time in hand. A tailor made holiday is a customized tour which would provide you the beauty of rough terrains at high altitudes in north and east Sikkim, beauty of waterfalls with greenery all around on high hills in West Sikkim.
Now let us now get into the popular tourists places and offbeat destinations in Sikkim. Once you have an idea about the tourist places in Sikkim and information on Sikkim tourism, you can plan your trip to Sikkim accordingly. One cannot make a trip plan, budget unless he know the places to be visited.
Gangtok – The Capital Of Sikkim
Gangtok is the capital city of Sikkim located centrally in Sikkim. It is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited till date. Though located at such a high altitude, the Gangtok city is very clean, well designed and well maintained by the Sikkim government. Gangtok is one of the main tourist attractions in Sikkim tourism. It looks like Park Street in Kolkata with all brands and high end outlets all around, super restaurants & bars on either way of the MG Marg. Ohh.. I must let you know that MG Marg is the heart of the city. MG Marg is the most popular street in Gangtok city. Most of the tourists and local people spend time here sitting on the chairs on road side, shopping, visiting eateries etc. You would never know when time has passed by. Gangtok can easily compete with any other hill cities around the world. There are hundreds of hotels located at MG Marg or in streets near MG Marg but the fact is that hotels at Development Area provide best view of the scenic beauty all around. Development Area is the second most popular and visited place in Gangtok city. Development Area is just a few minutes away from MG Marg. A taxi would take around Rs. 30 from Dvelopment Area to MG Marg. I would suggest you to stay at Development Area if you are visiting Gangtok. I always stay at development Area and love the scenic beauty all around. You would have to spend at least 2 days in sightseeing the Gangtok city and the places around the city. There are so many attractions around the city and these are worth visiting.
If you are looking forward to visit most of the tourist destinations in Sikkim, I would suggest you to make Gangtok city as the base and then go for sightseeing and other places of interest. It would be very tiring if you visit from an extreme end to another end, so if you are staying in Gangtok city, it would be easier to travel to your destination of interest.
North Sikkim Tour From Gangtok City
North Sikkim is one of the most visited and beautiful destinations in Sikkim. North Sikkim with rough terrains located at such a high altitude would be a fantastic tour. The journey to north Sikkim is quite adventurous too. The sharp bends of the narrow roads will thrill you and the weather there is very chilling in winter. April – May is the time for colorful Rhododendrons. In winter north Sikkim is gifted with heavy snow. In February the roads get blocked due to heavy snowfall. The roads there are well maintained by Border Road Organization (BRO) and the area is looked after by Indian Army because north Sikkim is the border between India and China. North Sikkim is accessible only by Indian citizens and restricted to foreigners for security reasons. The best time to visit north Sikkim is from October to January and April to May. In the period October to December, the temperature in north Sikkim remains very cold and it starts freezing. In January the weather is totally chilled, you get snow all around the temperature goes down to minus. April – May is the time to view beautiful and colorful Rhododendrons.
You have to take package tours to north Sikkim from Gangtok city. Generally there are 2 package tours to north Sikkim, 1 night – 2days and 2 nights – 3 days tour to north Sikkim. You can stay longer there if you want. In that case the agency who would arrange your tour can help you. I would suggest you a 2 nights – 3days tour to north Sikkim and it is enough to experience the beauty of the place.
Places Of Interest In North Sikkim
- Lachen
- Thangu
- Chopta Valley
- Gurudongmar lake
- Katao (if accessible)
- Lachung
- Yumtang Valley
- Zero Point
East Sikkim Trip – The Silk Route Trip in Sikkim
You can visit east Sikkim from Gangtok or you can visit Gangtok from east Sikkim. I have been to east Sikkim several times and each time I visited the east Sikkim first and then visited Gangtok city via the old Silk Route. The famous Silk Route stretches from east Sikkim to China occupied Tibet. East Sikkim used to be one of the offbeat destinations in Sikkim but now tourists have started visiting the place and the old Silk Route in Sikkim is becoming popular day by day. Silk route in Sikkim plays an important role in Sikkim tourism these days. All the places of interest in east Sikkim are located at high altitude in remote places. There are no hotels except a place called Lingtam. You are supposed to stay at house stays provided by local people. Local people there have developed themselves to such a level that they provide basic necessities, good hospitality to the tourists. A stay in a home stay with that scenic view all around would be a lifetime experience to you. People there are very simple, friendly and well behaved. They know how to treat their guests.
Places Of Interest In East Sikkim
- Lingtam
- Rishikhola
- Zuluk
- Nathang Valley
- Lungthung
Pelling – A West Sikkim Trip
West Sikkim is not that much rough and rowdy as north or east Sikkim, rather west Sikkim is green with trees on hills. Waterfalls there are additional attractions for Sikkim tourism. There are many waterfalls in Pelling and west Sikkim is a place to spend time in leisure. Pelling is the most visited and popular destination is west Sikkim and there are several places of interests in and around Pelling. You can stay in Pelling and do the sightseeing. Mt. Kanchenjungha is best visible from Pelling. Pelling is well connected with Gangtok city and other parts of Sikkim. I would suggest visiting Pelling from Gangtok via Namchi. More information is given below in south Sikkim section.
There are two more serene places in west Sikkim near Pelling which can be explored too.
- Kaluk
- Richenpong
Namchi & Ravangla – A South Sikkim Trip
South Sikkim is not that much popular among tourists but people who love nature and offbeat destinations visit this part of the state to get the view of the scenic beauty all around. Thos who have plan to visit Pelling from Gangtok City, I would suggest them to visit Pelling via south Sikkim from Gangtok. Tourists generally do not take this route, rather they take the direct route from Gangtok to Pelling. This route takes you through the beautiful Temi tea garden, Char Dham etc.
Places of interest in South Sikkim are:
- Namchi
- Ravangla
- Jorethang
I have tried to provide you an overall idea of the places of interests in Sikkim. This information about Sikkim tourism would help you in planning your trip to Sikkim. You can also decide the number of days required to spend a holiday in Sikkim.

I can only say if it is practical or not when you share the places you want to visit and the number of days in Sikkim. If you are in a group, say 7-8 persons the tour would be very economic.

pls give me all d advises so that we r not gion 2 face any problem,
plsssss sir reply me as early as possible.
Hi Souvick,
Yes, you can visit Sikkim by bike. You can visit Gangtok, Pelling and some other regions too but you need permission from the Home department of Sikkim in Gangtok city to visit some restricted regions like north and east. Gangtok is the capital of Sikkim. The major destinations for tourists are north Sikkim, east Sikkim and west Sikkim. To know more in detail please drop me a mail at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com”. I will surely help you out and plan your trip.
I and one of my friend is planning to travel around east sikkim (silk route) in Feb(16-23) ? One Agent recommended us till Zuluk, he told we cant go all the way to gangtok and he chraged around 12k/person. Is it fine or are we better off with west sikkim and gangtok?
Hi Prashanth,
Yes, he is right. You can not move further Zuluk because the roads will be blocked. Till March end, the region receives heavy snowfall. You will not be able to go up to Gangtok via Silk route. I would suggest an alternative plan. Drop me a mail at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com”. I will surely reply and provide you an itinerary. Mail me with all details like travel dates and head count.
Sent you a mail. Please reply.
Yes Prashanth, I have received it. All your queries are answered there in the that thread. Please have a look.
Hi Abhijit.
Please help us in preparing the itenary for 7-8 days.
1. Travel dates – 8th march – 15th march
Reaching 3:45 pm at bagdogra on 8th March
Starting by 12:15 PM from Bagdogra on 15th March
2. No of travellers -2 (me and wife)
3. Flight tickets – Booked (pune to Bagdogra and return)
4. Hotels – Not booked yet
This is our third marriage anniversary. We just want to make it memorable. Want to have life time experience as i heard North east is heaven on this earth.
Hi Vibhor,
Before I proceed to answer your queries, I must confirm that yes, north-east is heaven on earth. There are many states in north-east and Sikkim being one of them is the most beautiful region. I personally prefer Sikkim over any other north-east State.
The most beautiful places to visit in Sikkim are east Sikkim, north Sikkim, Gangtok (capital city), Pelling, Namchi etc. 7-8 days are not enough to explore all places in Sikkim. North and east Sikkim will have heavy snowfall in early March by the time you would visit. You may be able to visit east but there is less scope for north which is located at a very high altitude.
It is better if you avoid north Sikkim in early March because no one can say whether the climate would be favorable or not. North Sikkim is visited on package tours from Gangtok. There are 2 packages, i.e. 1 night – 2 days package and 2 nights – 3 days package. North Sikkim covers Lachen, Thangu, Chopta Valley, Gurudongmar Lake, Lachung, Yumthang, Hot Spring and Zero Point.
You may reach up to Lachung, Yumthang and Hot Spring but it would be tough to visit Gurudongmar Lake and Zero Point. So I would suggest you to skip north Sikkim and this would reduce the cost too because north Sikkim takes a good money.
The suggested itinerary is:
8th March: Reach Bagdogra, transfer to Pelling, stroll around, O/N stay
9th March: Full day sightseeing, O/N stay
10th March: Transfer to Gangtok via Namchi, Samdruptse, Temi tea garden, Char Dham, check-in hotel, O/N stay
11th March: Full day Gangtok sightseeing, stroll in MG Marg, O/N stay
12th March: Transfer to Lingtam via the famous Silk route, sightseeing on way, check-in hotel, O/N stay
13th March: Visit Aritar Lake and view point, stroll around in evening, O/N stay
14th March: Check-out from Lingtam and transfer to Siliguri, O/N stay
(it is better you stay near airport on this day to confirm you don’t miss your flight. On hills land slides can never be predicted)
15th March: Visit the Honkong Market, take your flight back at 12.15 pm from Bagdogra
(Bagdogra is a few minutes drive from Siliguri. Reserve an auto rickshaw to drop you at Bagdogra)
If you go with this itinerary, I am sure the trip would be memorable to you. For hotels, I would suggest you to stay in the hotels I stay in each time I visit these places. If you want the contact details, let me know. I will surely share that with you. I stay in a particular hotel in Gangtok and lIngtam each time I visit. The owner is my friend now. He manages my stay in Pelling too. Previously I used to stay in a particular hotel in Pelling but unfortunately the owner is not in business any more and it is now taken bu Sikkim Govt. for their office.
You can directly shoot me a mail at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com”. I will surely reply as early as possible.
Thank you very much Abhijit. This information will help us a lot.

Hi Aparupa,
I must let you know that Sillery Gaon is completely a different route. It is located in West Bengal whereas Zuluk and Rishikhola are in East Sikkim along Silk route. You can reach Gangtok along Silk Route. If you want to visit Sillery Gaon then make sure you have a vehicle reserved otherwise you won’t get any vehicle from Sillery Gaon to any places in east Sikkim. If you need more details and an itinerary, do mail me at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com”. I will surely revert back.
Looking for a Bengali Family companion. Visiting Sikkim from 27th Sept to 4th Oct. We are a family with 2 kids.

Hi Ashok plz, do mail me at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com” for all details on Sikkim tour.
Hi,
Im reaching Gangtok on 10th March.
Please suggest a suitable itinerary. I have 10 days in Sikkim
Is March peak season? Should I book a tour in advance or should I book it when I reach Gangtok.
Any recommended travel agents maybe on MG road that you would recommend for booking tours from Gangtok?
Do you think I will be able to go to Lachung in March?
Please also suggest a few budget hotels in this places you recommend
Hi Clarence,
March is not a peak season in Sikkim. There is not requirement of booking anything in advance. You can reach Gangtok and book your stay and trips. You can book your sightseeing trips from the hotel desk. All hotels manage vehicles for their guests. The cost is same, they do not charge anything extra. Lachung and Lachen are 2 villages in north Sikkim which are approachable but the concern is if you can visit Gurudongmar Lake or not. In March Gurudongmar Lake usualy receive heavy snow, so it depends whether you can reach or not. If you travel at later part like in last week, you have a chance.
For tour itinerary and hotel contacts please do mail me at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com”.
We want to go east sikkim(22nd Nov from NJP to 29th Nov 2014). want to see:-Sillery gaon,Lunghthung, aritar,Zulluk,Kupup,Memenchu,Rishi Khola, Baba Mandir, Nathula Pass & Changhu.any chance of snowfall that time?please Guide us.
Hi Subhajit,
In November snowfall is not expected but if you are too lucky you can get a bit at Tookla Valley and Nathula Pass. If it rains the previous night, you may get a bit.
I am planning a trip to Gangtok & North-Sikkim & Darjeeling from 25th january to 30th January 2015.
Will January be a good season to visit the place? I am a little confused we have already booked the tickets…and are looking fwrd to this trip.
But the only concern is the weather at these places. Gangtok, Changu Lake, Yumthang Valley, Mirik & Darjeeling are the places we wish to visit.
Please advice.
Thanks in advance.
In January end, the road to Tsomgo Lake (Changu lake) will be closed. You will be able to visit the hamlets, Lachen and Lachung in north Sikkim (places to spend nights in north) but you won’t be able to reach up to spots of interest like Yumthang Valley, Gurudongmar Lake, etc. because all roads will be blocked with snow for sure.
Mirik, Darjeeling and Gangtok will be reachable and can be visited. I would suggest you to include Pelling in your tour plan and skip north Sikkim. For more details, do mail me at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com”, I will surely revert back.

Hi Shivendu,
I apologize that I am quite a bit late to reply here in this regard. Hope you are doing great.
If you are looking for snow, I would suggest you to cover east Sikkim and north Sikkim with a couple of nights at Gangtok. You can start off on the following route:
Bagdogra >> Lingtam >> Gnathang Valley/Zuluk >> Gangtok >> Lachen >> Lachung >> Gangtok >> Bagdogra
If you are still looking for a detailed plan and information, drop me a mail at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com”, I will surely revert back.

Hi Hirak,
I can surely help you with all contact details you want. The route plan looks okay but I would suggest you to spend one more day in Gangtok. It will be hectic to reach Gnagtok via Silk route and leave for Pelling next day. Drop me a mail at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com” in regard to this conversation and I would share the contact details with you.
Hi Abhijit,
This site has amazing info and you r doing a great job in answering all these queries, I have also emailed you
I have read your posts and comments on traveldias.com, we are a group of 4 guys(joining from various parts of india) and plan to cover Sikkim between 7th-14th march. I have prepared a detailed plan, below please check and let us know if these sound good and feasible:
I have a few queries:
1. Good place to stay at pelling.
2. Good place to stay at Lachen.
3. Where is hot spring located at lachen I don’t see it on Map.

Hey! This site contains well managed and useful information!
we are group of around 7-8 people ! It would be a 7 day trip! We will be reaching Gangtok on 9th march at around 7 pm! & leaving on 15th!
The plan is made quite in hurry! apart from some very famous places I do not have any idea where to go and in what sequence! From above information i got some idea as to how to plan a complete trip! But can u please help me and make a complete route map fpr the trip! Keeping in mind following point!
1. We want to cover as many places as we can, but don’t want to make it a hectic trip, we want to enjoy too! For it probably it is our last college trip.
2. We are college students so we do have budget in mind.
3.please do suggest us the places to stay and good local eateries as well, anything that is particular to that place.
4. And also please suggest us what kind of clothes to keep, as I’ve checked that right now some places like gangtok have pleasant temp like 10-20℃ while some places are really cold.!!
Please reply as soon as possible!
Hi Abhijit
I was going through you silk route survey while looking for route plan for Sikkim tour. I would be grateful if you could help me out for a suggestive rote plan in Sikkim. Basically I am going after years with my wife. I will be reaching NJP on 12.04.2015 at around 3.00 am in the morning, from there straight to the holiday home which I have already booked in Gangtok. Address: Near National Highway Near Old Private-Bus Stand & Taxi Stand, Gangtok 737101, my return train is on 16.04.2015 at 8.00 pm. So, basically I will be getting only 3.5 days to visit Sikkim . Please suggest me a tour plan in affordable prices.
Regards
Abhijit
Hi Abhijit,
We are a group of 8, who will be reaching Bagdogra airport by May 22nd afternoon. We have a return flight on May 26th afternoon. That leaves is with 4 nights and 3 days in Sikkim.
how is the weather during this period.
Is it possible to have a small trek for a day or 2 in the itinery.
Also are there any accommodation’s available for 8 in 2 or 3 bedroom guest houses.
Can you kindly suggest a plan togo about it.
Shyam Sunder.
Dear Abhijit,
I wanted to cover north and east sikkim in April, so how many days should I give to it?
Also, I will probably be travelling alone, so would you recommend solo female travel in Sikkim? Otherwise could you suggest me some forums where I can look for online trek buddies or travel packages that will be worthwhile?
Thank you!
Hiiii plz suggest me about a 5 days tour in sikkim .i m confused in east and north sikkim .plz help me to plan my trip.i m from delhi
Hi Preeti,
Both east and north are worth visiting and so beautiful with the scenic view all around. Both east and north are extreme regions of Sikkim located at very high altitudes. As you have only 5 days in hand, you can cover any one region. On this trip I would suggest you to cover east Sikkim and next time if you visit, you can cover north. If you need a detailed trip plan or any other info, drop me a mail at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com” with your travel dates & time and the number of people. I would surely assist you in this regard.
Hey, this is something really awesome thing I have came across.
Let me know how affordable is it to backpack solo to Sikkim-silk route? Would you recommend hiring a bike or if not, then whats the best way to go around while travelling alone?
It is very hard to get a bike on hire in Sikkim. There are no vendors available in Gangtok but you may get one or two in Siliguri. I am not sure if they operate any more. There are no garage on extreme routes of east and north Sikkim. It is better if you manage to get a shared trip with other travelers. The hotel managers can manage this else you can let me know, I can manage that for you with my contacts I have there. Drop me a mail at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com” with your exact date and time of arrival and departure. Drop me a mail with reference to this communication. I would surely assist you.
Hi i along wid my two other frnds r planning a10 day trip to sikkim in may but we are completely unaware of what would be the approximate costing and should we plan the tour.can u please help
Hi Anubhab,
Let me know if you are still looking for any information. Couldn’t reply earlier because I was out of city. Just drop me a mail at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com”.
Hi
We are planning trip to Sikkim from 16th June for around 4-5 days.Number of people: 3 guys. Budget approx 7000 per person.
We live in Jhansi but we can start our journey from Delhi as well.
We are basically looking for hiking, river rafting and a few more adventure sports. Please help us plan the trip and suggest which part of Sikkim would be the best and help us develop the entire plan.
Hi Anurag,
I was out of city so I couldn’t reply earlier. Let me know if you still looking for information on your Sikim trip. I can surely help you out in framing a trip plan and with other details. Just drop me a mail at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com” with reference to this conversation.
Hi Abhijit,
You have a really nice blog here, it was lovely to read it. I have some questions regarding a trip to Sikkim. Hope you could answer them.
We were planning a 5 day family trip to Sikkim in mid June . Can you help us with details about the place we can stay and treks we can go on. Would it be better to plan our own trip or get it planned by a travel agency? Also, is there any place to put up a camp for a night?
Thank You
I feel you should try east Sikkim. There is no need to trek, you will simply like the region. It is less visited and the crowd is filtered too. You can trek up to certain pints for good view and sun rise or sun set view.
The route can be: NJP/Siliguri >> Sillery Gaon >> Padamchen >> Aritar >> NJP/Siliguri
There is no need to ask for help from any travel agent, you can make this trip very easily on your own. Make sure you book all accommodation in advance if you are visiting east Sikkim along Silk Route because options are limited. There are no hotels/resorts available, only home stays are the options for lodging.
For more details, you can send me a mail at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com”.
plz mail sikkim honeymoon package and idea in 04 june i m come to bagdogra
Hi Vijay,
Please drop me mail with dates and I would be able to help you. I want to know the exact number of days you would be in Sikkim. Let me know if you have any places in mind, I would suggest accordingly. Drop me the mail at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com”

hii,
I am planning a trip to Sikkim from 27th Nov 2015 to 02nd Dec 2015. we will be reaching Bagdogra airport on 27th around Noon. Please help me in making a good trip . At that time is there too much cold. And is there a good package means cheap and best for honeymoon. Please hellp me regarding this.
Hi,
Sikkim is always cold and in November, yeah it would be quite cold in Nov. If you visit high altitudes like North Sikkim or east Sikkim, it would be very very cold with freezing breezes and snow caped hills all around. If you are lucky you can get snow at Nathula Pass in east Sikkim and Zero Point in north Sikkim.
I can surely help you with a travel plan and ideas for a economic but best tour. Drop me a mail with reference to this conversation at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com” because I feel we can better communicate through mails.
Hi,
Me and my friends (all are students) are plannig for a trio to north sikkim in january 2016. we will be reaching NJP on 23rd january..
main reason for this trip is to experience snow.. places of interests are lachung, zero point, gurudongmar lake. we will be returning on 27th jan from bagdogra airport.. no hotels and tickets booked yet.
please suggest whether it will be the right time to visit sikkim ..if so then some good hotels(budget no constraint) in lachung in the bed of snow(safe) .. also we wont mind staying the first night in gangtok.. would request you to give a proper planning for the trip.. thanx in advance..
Bipasha,
If you are visiting north Sikkim in January, it all depends on your luck. Roads to north Sikkim remains open till mid Jan but if you have tough luck then roads may get blocked early. I have visited north Sikkim in January twice and failed another time when the roads were blocked due to heavy snowfall. So you have no other way but to wait fore the day. Do not book the north Sikkim package in advance, you can book the same from Gangtok when you reach there. If the road is open, visit there else there are more places to visit in Sikkim. I feel it is better if you visit in the first week of January.
You have to stay in Gangtok first because permit for north Sikkim is obtained from the tourism office in Gangtok. It is better if you stay 2 nights at Gangtok first before you set off for north Sikkim because that will help you to get acclimatize with the altitude.
please get me information about south sikkim tour on 5th Aug to 8th Aug’2015
Namchi is the head quarter of South. There are certain points of interest in Namchi like Temi Tea Garden, Sandruptse, Char Dham, etc. I feel you should visit Kaluk, Richenpong along with Namchi. Do you have any plan to visit Gangtok?
You can drop me a mail at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com”

Hi Abhijit,

I have a thought of 4 nights in Kaluk and 4 nights in Gangtok.( 3 complete days in both places)
From Kaluk to cover nearby places and to cover namchi from Kaluk to Gangtok or vice versa.
I am totally confused , would really appreciate if you can help regarding the same.
Thanks in advance for kind support.
We are already communication through mails. So ignoring this comment.
I want to visit silk route . Date is 23.10.2015-28.10.2015. pls suggest me abt the programme.
I can not suggest any tour plan unless I know the followings:
1. Number of nights in Sikkim
2. Your train/flight timings (arrival and departure)
3. You want to cover only Silk Route or Silk Route along Gangtok
4. Have you visited Gangtok before?
5. Who you are traveling with?

Want to visit east Sikkim…please do get me some idea of that place…like places to visit…..where to stay….transportation from Njp & again back to Njp…in a word budgeted tour….please do suggest.
Hi Sanjib,
You can cover east Sikkim in 3-4 nights, you can spend more time if you have more nights in hand. You can enter Silk route from 2 different sides, i.e. from Gangtok’s side or directly from NJP/Siliguri/Bagdogra. On an average you can take the transportation cost to be Rs 3,500 per day (aprox.), it varies with itinerary. Accommodation can be Rs 750-850 per head per day including food and lodging. I can share more details if you need. Send me a mail to my e-mail id “uvreachedavi@gmail.com”
I have mailed you my query regarding east sikkim tour in coming december. please revert me back asap.

Please Help
Regards,
Piklu
I understand your concern. Honeymooners should always prefer to travel less and enjoy nature more. East Sikkim along Silk route can be your dream destination. Mail me your travel dates and time of arrival and departure so that I can frame an itinerary for you. Drop me all details at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com”
Want to visit north or east / both north-east Sikkim which one possible for a span of 6-7 days max…please do get me some idea of that place…like places to visit…..stays (hotels or homestay)….starting from NJP and back…in one word budgeted tour….please do suggest.
Hi Jayanta,
I can’t suggest you anything unless I know when you are planning to visit Sikkim. There are certain regions get blocked with snow during February and early March. Hi,
I want to visit to Sikkim with my wife on 21th Dec(new jalpaigudi – 1900hr)-27th Dec(from silliguri by train – 0300 hrs), can any one guide how can I make it a memorable tour? I want to visit best places of Sikkim in these days. I want to stay budget hotels with better facility. Pls suggest me how to make my plan?
Please Help

Ritesh
Hi
I am planning to visit in North Sikkim on 6-8th Dec. My plan like that
5thDec train arrive at 10:25PM at NJP & 9th Dec morning my plan to back to kolkata.
So can u suggest that North sikkim tour possible (lachen, Lachung, Yamthang & Pelling) in this time? Or any other tour plan except Gangtok. I travelled there earlier.
Plz give me an idea about tour cost of couple& can I book the Hotel after reach there depend on weather situation.
Thanks in advance
During first week of December, you can visit Yumthang from Lachung but you will not be able to move further to Zero Point. If you are lucky enough, you get snow on way before reaching the point at Yumthang. Gurdudongmar Lake will not be approachable so there is no need to visit Lachen. Road to the lake will be blocked with snow. North Sikkim is visited from Gangtok, so if you intend to visit Lachung, you will have to visit Gangtok first and then you are supposed to get the permit and then you can set off for north.
Pelling is always reachable and you can visit the place for sure. If you want to enjoy serenity of nature and breathtaking natural view with snow, you can make a visit to Silk route in east Sikkim. The places you can visit are Sillery Gaon, Padamchen, Aritar. Study the places and then make your mind.
Do mail me at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com” for further information or communication. I will revert back there. Thanks, Abhijit
Hello sir,
We are planning our honeymoon for Sikkim Gangtok and Darjeeling kindly guide us the cost wise package or private visit whichever would be cheaper and best, we are planning for 5 to 6 days, will that be enough for us to see all the places there, and enjoy each and every beautiful scenery of nature? I want to know the travel convenience and faster one from Hyderabad
Thank you
You can fly to Bagdogra (if flights available) or take a flight to Kolkata and same day board a overnight train from Kolkata (Sealdaha) to NJP railway station. Bagdogra (Airport) and NJP (Train station) are the gateways to Sikkim and Darjeeling. If this is your first visit, you can visit with a travel agent or if you intend to visit by your own, I can surely help you out. 6 days are very less to cover all parts of Sikkim and Darjeeling. You can spend 2-3 nights at Darjeeling and cover all places but you need much more days to cover Sikkim. Which places you an cover in Sikkim depends on your time of arrival. During winter (Jan to early March) there are places remain covered with snow and one can’t visit those places.
So let me know your travel plan and time, I can surely help you out. Drop me a mail at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com” for further communication. I will surely revert back.
Hi, we are planning to visit Sikkim in mid Feb (13th Feb to 20th Feb) 17th we need to attend a wedding in jalpaiguri so 17th we would like to spend there. One of us will start from Delhi n other one from Pune/Mumbai.
Please suggest as we need to book tickets before it gets too costly
We would prefer going via flight and return via train, if tickets are available
Many thanks in advance.
You can visit Sillery Gaon, Aritar and Padamchen in east Sikkim and then transfer to Gangtok via Rongpo, enjoy a couple of nights and then transfer to Pelling for another couple of nights. We can discuss the itinerary in details communicating through mails. Let me know if you have plan to visit any place that you have found or if there is any specific requirement. You can mail me at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com” with reference this communication and I will surely revert back with details.

Our interest is in Photography and having to explore the natural beauty of Sikkim as well as taking in the food and culture of the place too. We can look at anything between 7 to 8 nights
The preferred time is sometime in May, before the Monsoon season arrives
Please advise what options shall we consider

We have intentions of going to north sikkim and west sikkim. Will this be possible within our budget. In north can we cover zero point also? How do we hire a cab from gangtok to Lachung and how much would that cost.? Can you give us some idea and a plan for this trip?

Hi,
I am planning to visit North Sikkim in first week of April with my wife and daughter.
If you can provide me your valuable advises to compact my trip then it would be a great help for me.
1. Whether First or second week of April is a good time to visit North Sikkim.
2. My main concern is my daughter age, she is now only 4 years old, so whether it would be a concern?
3. From NJP, what should I take to reach Gangtok.
4. Do I really need to book hotel in Gangtok as I am going with my family? if yes then in which place of Gangtok I need to book hotel or if you can give me some good hotel info.
5. From Gangtok to visit North Sikkim, where I need to contact.
I will be waiting for your suggestion and advise. Once I will get some Idea from I will book train ticket and hotels.
Please share your suggestion on my mail.
Hi,
April is okay to visit North Sikkim. The concern is your daughter’s age. You will not be able to visit Gurdudongmar Lake because children below 5 years of age is not permitted to visit Gurudongmar Lake in north Sikkim. You can only visit Yumthang Valley from Lachung. You can get shared vehicle from the prepaid taxi booth in NJP station. Shared vehicles are readily available. You can take your hotel near MG Marg in Gangtok. You can ask the hotel desk in Gangtok to arrange a north Sikkim package for you. As I have already mentioned you will not be able to visit Gurdudongmar lake, you can go for 1 night – 2 days package to north rather than 2 nights – 3 days. In 1 night – 2 days you can cover Yumthang Valley, Zero Point and Hot Spring from Lachung. Your night stay would be at Lachung.
For more details, you can mail me at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com”. If you mail me, drop me the mail with reference to this communication. I will surely revert back.

Hi Pawan,
I have mailed you. Please check your inbox and revert back there.
Hi Abhijit,
I am planing a honeymoon in Sikkim in month of November. I wish to cover all important worth seeing destinations of Sikkim. I have 9 – 10 days with me. Also budget is not a concern. Also i would like to cover Darjelling. Let me know, if the days are falling short. Can you plz proide me travel plan for the same.
I feel you can skip Darjeeling and focus on Sikkim only but it is absolutely your call. If you insist, I can surely suggest Darjeeling in my plan. If I talk about my primary suggestion, I feel you should focus on east Sikkim, Gangtok and Pelling. East Sikkim will provide you serenity and tranquility with breath taking scenic view. Pelling is the place of waterfalls and the famous Khechuperi lake. Gangtok is the town for shopping, cafes, eateries, etc. Let me know your feedback and I will suggest accordingly.
Thanks Abhijit,
As suggested by you, we have no issues in skipping Darjeeling. However, we would like to capture snow in sikkim, is it possible in end week of November?? You have suggested east sikkim, but if m not wrong, we will get to see snow in north sikkim only, right?? Can’t we include some important scenic parts of north sikkim in plan, prime motive is to enjoy the snow. Plz advice.
Hi,
I have sent you a mail. Please check your inbox and revert back there.
I guess I have mailed you. Please check your inbox.
Hi,
We are planning to visit Sikkim on 21st May from NJP for 6 nights and 7 days for 30 persons . You can provide us your valuable advises to compact our trip then it would be a great help for me. Outline of our plan:-
Day 1: NJP to Pelling
Day 2: Pelling to Lachung
Day 3: Lachung to Lachen
Day 4: Lachen to Gangtok
Day 5: Gangtok
Day 6: Gangtok to via Changu, Nathang Valley, Zuluk to Lingtham/Rishikhola/Sillery Gaon
Day 7: NJP
The plan is not proper. You can’t visit Lachung from Pelling. Lachung is located in north Sikkim and it can only be visited from Gangtok. You can cover lachen and Lachung from Gangtok and then transfer to Pelling for a separate stay. If you have only 7 days in hand, I suggest you to cover Sillery Gaon, Padamchen, Nathang valley, Gangtok and Pelling. You should skip north Sikkim (Lachen and Lachung) this time. Let me know your feedback and then I can suggest further.
My name is Manoj Mehta.
>> Actually, we are planning a trip to sikkim from Kolkata (by Train)
>> No of persons are:- 4 ( 3 Male + 1 Female )
>> Affordable Budget:- Approx. Rs 10k per head
>> Time:- About 7 to 9 days ( Including Travel ) in Early March
>> Now, we want to explore the whole sikkim during this
>> Can you please guide me about the whole tour, where to start and how to move forward….
>> Also, if you can give some hotels for staying ( must be safe for girls)… i will really appreciate it…
>> Please Help with this plan. I am getting quite confused with this.
Thanks…
Frankly speaking you can’t cover the whole of Sikkim in just 7-9 days and with 10K per head budget. There are many regions in Sikkim and you need at least 25 days to cover most of them. I suggest you to focus on east Sikkim along with Gangtok and Pelling. I can surely help you with all contact details needed but before that let me know your feedback. I will suggest accordingly. Drop me a mail at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com” with reference to this conversation.
SIR I AM PLANNING A TOUR TO SIKKIM IN MAY FOR 10 DAY…NO RESERVATION DONE YET…PLZ TELL ME THT 10 DAYS R ENOUGH FOR THE TRIP AND ALSO TELL ME HOW MUCH EXPENSE IT WILL TAKE..(EXPENSE IN APPROX)
ME,MY WIFE AND MY 4 YEAR BABY GIRL…ONLY 3 OF US…PLZ REPLY
10 days are okay to go around Sikkim. You can cover many regions in 10 days. I will suggest you to cover the belt of Gangtok, east Sikkim and Pelling. I can’t suggest you any trip plan or itinerary unless I know your budget. Drop me a mail at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com” with reference to this conversation. Let me know your budget first and then I can suggest you places to cover.
Hi
V r planning a trip to sikkim in dis month n wid a 2 year old child pls suggest me it is a good to visit wid child.wer r u from n how do I contact u for further details…
Hi Kapil,
You can surely visit Sikkim with your child. There will be no issues unless your child suffers from any specific disease or health issues. You can try east Sikkim along with Reshikhola, Mankhim, Ichey Gaon, Padamchen, etc. If you want you can visit Gangtok too. You can mail me directly at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com”.
hi, i have mailed you on gmail , please reply over there
thanks
I don’t find any mail in my inbox from your end. Please do mail me at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com”.

Hi,
If you are looking for a budget trip, you can visit Gangtok and Pelling which are the two most visited places in Sikkim. You can spend 3 nights in Gangtok and 3 nights in Pelling. You can mail me at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com” for further details if needed.
Hi Abhijit,
I have visited Gangtok once with friends but this time planing to go with family,I am from kolkata and we are 3 person. kindly guide me I have 5-6 days(Aprox) in my hand to spend.want to visit Gangtok + pelling + yumthang .or Gangtok + yumthang or Gangtok + lachung +yumthang or only Gangtok. You can plan 3 nights in Gangtok and 2 nights in Pelling. Both these places are connected to each other with shared taxis and both places are also connected with shared taxis from NJP/Siliguri. You can mail me at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com” for further details if needed.
Hi Abhijit
We(4 person-2boy+2gir) are planing for a tour of sikkim in october end this year. We are college students and having very tight budget approx. 5000/head. So can you suggest if this trip is possible.
And what are the places we can go from gangtok if we are interested in snow fall.
If you are on a tight budget, you can go for Gangtok only. you can spend 3 nights in Gangtok covering all possible points making Gangtok as your base. Gangtok is well connected with shared taxi from Siliguri/NJP. You can go for local sightseeing on day 2 and go for a day excursion to Tsomgo Lake (Changu), Baba Mandir and Nathula Pass on day 3. You can mail me at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com” for further details if needed.

I have already mailed you my journey details, kindly look up and reply fast.
Hi Abhijit,
This is the first time I am planning a tour to the North east and wish to cover Sikkim. I liked all the information you have given on your site but since there is so much to look around I am getting a bit confused. I will be traveling with my husband and two and a half year old son in April end and we have around 9 days in hand. Can you help with an itinerary as to from which place should I start and how to go about our schedule. Also some information on the cost of these tours would be helpful.
and yeah you did not mention about Darjeeling, I wish to see that too.
I guess i don’t have much time time in hand to cover everything but if you could help with a proper plan along with an idea of the cost, it would be helpful.
Thanks a ton!
Wish I could help earlier. Unfortunately I just checked your comment. Let me know if I can be any help in future.
Sir
We two families with 4 members from kerala are coming to Gangtok, pelling and Darjeeling on may
We will reach njp on may 19 midnight
We booked a hotel in njp for night stay
20/5*we will go to Gangtok
21/5* full sight seeing
22/5* to tsamgo lake, baba Mandir and nathula
23/5* to pelling
24/5* pelling sight seeing
25/5* to Darjeeling
26/5* after visiting tiger hills, batasia ,dhoom monastery, visit to mirik lake and pasupathy and return to njp as our departing train is scheduled to 9 PM
I have some doubts
1: on 20/5 after reaching Gangtok, we didn’t plan to visit anything except mall road.is this OK
2: as we skipped gurdongmar and yumthang due to some kind of asthmatic problem for one of our tour member,we are very eager to visit nathula.I heard that nathula can be seen only by luck due to the permission
3: as you mentioned, now i am planning to go to pelling via namchi ,char dham etc.how much time it will take to reach pelling from Gangtok through this route.
4: we have booked joy ride on 25/5 at 4 PM.we will start early morning from pelling and may reach before lunch.after lunch, with in that short time of 3 hours, shall we able to visit any spot in Darjeeling as we are planning to visit tiger hills, batasia, dhoom only for next day
5: on last day after breakfast, will go to mirik.is this place a must one to visit or shall we need to visit any other places in Darjeeling.
6: I got one phone number of a gangtok driver from my friend who visited and travelled Gangtok and pelling last year. He is ready to provide his Scorpio for 20000/ for Gangtok and pelling.he will drop us up to the boundary of Darjeeling.is this rate is worth for that trip.
Please give me some suggestions for my doubts
Waiting for your most important advice
Thank you
Dear Biju,
The trip plan is okay to go with. On 20th when you reach Gangtok, you can just stroll around and take a walk across the town. Stroll along MG Marg which is the heart of the city. If anyone of your team has health issues, I will suggest not to visit Nathula Pass which is the highest point in east Sikkim. It is nearly the height of Gurudongmar in North. As I have visited all places of interest and offbeat destinations in Sikkim many times, i know all of it. I personally feel one do not miss anything if he is unable to visit Nathula Pass. The scenic view all around in east Sikkim is just breathtaking. Gangtok to Pelling via Namchi will take around 6-7 hours considering you will spend much time in sightseeing and you will also stop for lunch on way. The day you take a joyride in Darjeeling, you can visit the Ghoom monastery which is good. On last day when you check-out, Mirik is a place you can visit for a sightseeing, It is a photogenic place and will have some good snaps. As far as the car cost is concerned, it is not clear to me what he is charging for. Is he going to charge you rs 20,000 for the entire trip?
Thanks for the reply sir
I am fully satisfied to know that our tour plan is good. I will definitely keep your suggestions.
And about the cost
He will pick us from NJP to Gangtok
Gangtok full sight seeing
Changu lake and baba mandir
( additional 3000/-for Nathula,if get permit)
To Pelling
Full sight seeing in Pelling
Pelling to Darjeeling
He is ready to drive with his Scorpio for 20000/-
He will arrange Tavera for next day from early morning to NJP for 5000/-
Is it worth or not
I have contacted almost 10 operators but they all are pricing around 33000/- for full trip
Wish I could help earlier. Unfortunately I just checked your comment. Let me know if I can be any help in future.

We are planning to visit Sikkim on last week of December…
We are 7 people with a 3years old baby girl. We can arrange 6 to 7 days to complete our tour including journey. Is it feasible to cover south and west Sikkim within a single tour? If possible then what will be the best plan for it?? Please suggest the details planning with a tentative budget.
One more thing… Is there any possibility to found snow on that time in that region???
It generally doesn’t snow in south or west Sikkim. You can cover Pelling and Ravangla in south and west Sikkim. You can spend 2 nights in Pelling and 2 nights in Ravangla. You can cover Namchi from Ravangla. You can cover the region in 4 nights – 5 days. If you have 2 more nights, you can cover Gangtok along with that. If you want to see snow, I will suggest you to visit east Sikkim along Silk route. You can mail me at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com” for further details or information.

I am not able to plan unless I know the dates or tentative days of actual night stays there. You ca write to me at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com”. You can visit east Sikkim, Gangtok, Pelling and Ravangla.
Thanks

Hi Manoj,
I have replied to your mail with a detailed itinerary of Sikkim tour. Please check and revert back there.
We are visiting sikkim in june 14 . I have heard rumor that there will be such big clouds that you cant see nearby good views . how true is that ? will I enjoy my trip ? should I go or not ?
I don’t think there would be any issue in June. You can surely visit the place. As far as clouds are concerned, it can be there any time through out the year. You can surely go.
Hi,
Planning to visit lachung and lachen, Sikkim around 8th October 2016. Is it the accurate and suitable time for that??
Kindly let me know ASAP.
Hi,
October is a good time to visit north Sikkim covering Lachen and Lachung.
Hi,
Can u please suggest me some destinations for 6 nights 7days from NJP to NJP?? We are there from 8th Oct To 14th Octber…But excluding Silk route as I had already been there in the month of March.
You can cover the entire Dooars region or explore the hills of Sikkim. Let me know what you are interested in. I will suggest accordingly. Let me know if you have been to any other places in Sikkim other than Silk route.
Hi!
I’m Girin
I want to visit to Sikkim for my honeymoon on 8th Oct – 13th Oct from Guwahati. Please give me a best tour plan with detail with reasonable budget.
October is a peak season in Sikkim and North Bengal hills. Is you are on Honemoon, best place for the same in Sikkim is the east Sikkim region along Silk Route but I guess you are too late to confirm your booking. There are very few options for lodging which are already full. You can try though and see if you get any availability. In case you don’t get, you can visit Gangtok and Pelling. You can mail me for further details. My mail-id is “uvreachedavi@gmail.com”
Hi Abhijit,
I am planning a trip to Sikkim – Darjeeling from 26 Nov to 2-3 Dec (7-8 days).
I plan to reach bagdogra on 26th by noon. Please help me in making a good trip.
Rahul,
In a separate comment you asked for east and north Sikkim. What about that plan?? I am not sure which plan you are going with. Please confirm and send me a mail. I will surely revert back. You can mail me at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com”
Hello Abhijit,
Me n my family are planning for 7 days tour to Sikkim, Could you send me details of what places to visit and where to stay in the meantime? My budget would be about 10-15K Per Person and we are 3 of them. You can mail me at ronakstud@gmail.com.
Budget highly depends on the mode of transportation. If you avail shared cars, the cost will be comparatively much lower and if you want to travel in a reserved vehicle, the cost will be higher. There are commercial and most visited places in Sikkim where you will get shared cars but there are offbeat and extreme places where you must have a reserved car to travel. Share your feedback and I will be able to share a travel plan for you.
Hi Abhijeet,
We(my mother n I) are planning to travel to sikkim in oct. 9- 14….As we have got late in booking in advance there is a dearth of budget bookings…though we have got one hotel in Siliguri so will it be okei to stay there and travel to other parts of sikkim and come back at night to rest in Siliguri? If yes then can we squeeze in 1day Darjeeling visit via Siliguri as well?
Absolutely not feasible. It takes around 4-5 hours from Siliguri to any part of Sikkim. You can’t just visit any place in Sikkim from Siliguri and then return. You will have to stay in Sikkim to visit tourist destinations there. If you are not getting any booking in hills, you can then travel to Dooars.
we are in a plan to visit sikkim from 23rd sep to 29th sep .pls suggest us the best possible way of transportation and places to visit in sikkim ,we are arriving to bagdogra airport on first day .we are interested in west and south sikkim .
You can reserve a car and cover places like Ravangla, Pelling and Gangtok. You can mail me for details.
September end Approx package rate for Yumthang Vallay and Nathula
(for 02 persons)
It is not a clear question to me. Nathula Pass is covered on a day trip from Gangtok (closed on Monday and Tuesday). Yumthang Valley is visited from Lachung in north Sikkim. If you plan to cover Lachung then I would suggest you to cover Lachen too so that you can visit Thangu, Chopta Valley and Gurudongmar Lake. Mail me at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com” so that I can reply in detail.
How can i go Sillary gaon from Siliguri? Is there any facilities of shared jeep nad what is the fare?
There are hardly any shared car directly from Siliguri to Sillery Gaon. You can travel up to Kalimpong and then can avail shared cars to Sillery Gaon. You can also request the driver to drop you at Bish-mile more – a few kilometers further to Klaimpong. You can ask the home stay owner to pick you up from Bish-Mile. It is always better if you ask for a pick up vehicle.
Hi
We are planning a tour for Gangtok from 8th Oct to 12 Oct.
So plan is as follows

Is this plan is feasible and can you tell me how much it will cost? We are having group 0f 4 peoples.

Abhijit,

with travel cost from njp to njp, in this tour me, my wife and my 10 years son.
if possible the hotel name or cab tour name
The stretch between Gangtok and any hamlet in east Sikkim along Silk route will blocked due to heavy snowfall. It snows heavily during 2nd week of March. You can not reach Silk route from Gangtok directly but you can surely reach there via Rongpo and Rongli. Check your inbox, I have mailed in detail.
Hi Abhijit,
we are a family group of 9 people with 4 people above age 50. we are planning a trip to Sikkim between 24-31 Dec 2016. Could you please suggest a suitable itinerary which can be practically covered within this date range with enough scope for relaxation keeping in mind the elders and also good variety for youngsters. Also would you advise trip in December to Sikkim? Your inputs will be really helpful.
Thanks in advance
You can surely trip Sikkim at that time. You must have a blend of places which gives pleasure to both eyes (elder + young). I can surely help you out. I am not able to plan for you unless you tell me the number of nights you can spend there. Let me know how many nights you will have.
Hi Abhijit,
already i put a mail in your Id. please suggest me the probable budget according the best possible tour plan. the details are given in the mail. thanks.
Hi Samir,
I have already replied to your mail. Check your inbox please.

Being a foreigner you can only visits certain parts of Sikkim like Gangtok, Pelling. You won’t be able to visit extreme places and border areas. There are restrictions. You must carry valid passport and Visa to enter Sikkim.

Let me know the buget per person ( traveling + living bt not hifi .. normal only )
Also plan the tour and the places we could visit …. no limits of adventure …just want trip to be amazing .. we want one night btwn heavy snow ..
Is it possible to rent a bike for gurudongmar lake only
Pls rply and plan an amazing rememberable and adventurous trip for us
We have a buget idea of 10000 per person ? Is it ok
We want to see everything specially in north and west sikkim ☺
I feel you should skip visiting north Sikkim in January. Roads will remain closed. I feel it is better if you visit Silk Route and Gangtok in east Sikkim along with Pelling in West Sikkim. Share your feedback and then I would be able to frame a trip accordingly.
Hi, we are a group of 12 adults travelling from delhi to bagdogra on 15/02/2017. We are planning for a 4 night visit to gangtok and surrounding tourist places. Please suggest the best possible itinerary in this off season. We are interested in covering best loactions in sikkim only. Thanks.
You can spend all 4 nights at Gangtok and move around. You can spend a full day to explore local places and 1 full day to trip Tsomgo Lake (Changu), Baba Mandir and Nathula Pass. If you could manage 1 more night, I would have suggested Pelling too.
Hi Abhijit,
First off all, this is a great piece of effort you’re putting in here helping people out plan their itinerary, so a thumbs up to that.
I plan to go to Sikkim this Dec 2016, somewhere around the 21st or 22nd.
I do have like 14-15 days in hand and I am planning to backpack solo. I am on a constrained budget of not more than 20k-25k for the entire trip including the round trip commute from New Delhi.
I would be grateful pal if you could help me out with planning my itinerary and also any tips I gotta keep in mind along the way. I preference would be home stays though.
Look forward to hearing from you
Thanks in advance,
Cheers!
Cinsideting your tight budget, you can trip to most visited places like Gangtok and Pelling in Sikkim. These places are connected with shared cars. You can also cover Silk Route up to Padamchen or Zuluk (shared cars available from Rongpo up to Rongli and then from Rongli to Padamchen or Zuluk). You can then transfer to Gangtok (shared car upto Rongli then from Rongli to Rongpo and then from Rongpo to Gangtok). You can then transfer to Pelling (shared car available). Not much home stays are available in Gangtok and Pelling. Mostly hotels and resorts. Home stays are available along Silk route at places like Lingtam, Padamchen, Zuluk, etc.
You can mail me or call me for further details and thank you so much for the kind words.
We are planning to visit north Sikkim In January 25 th to January 30 th . Can u suggest me a tour plan ?
There are 2 ways you can visit north Sikkim. Either you reserve a vehicle for the trip or you can go on a package from Gangtok. A package includes everything but if you want to travel on your own, you will have to reserve a car, home stays at Lachen and Lachung. The driver will help with the permit required. You will need 2 nights minimum at Gangtok. You can spend 1 night at Lachen and 1 night at Lachung. You can cover Yumthang Valley, Zero Point and Hot spring from Lachung and can visit Thangu, Chopta Valley and Gurudongmar Lake from Lachen.
I are arriving in Gangtok Probably by 15th April. We are a group of 6 and looking forward to have a tour map for the entire north sikkim. We have basically planned a week’s holiday. we will not be moving with a travel agent hence request your assistance in planning our trip accordingly for north sikkim.
Let me what exactly you want to know. I can share details only when the query is clear to me.
Sir i have the same situation which natasha khan had so pls send me your suggestion to me..
Hi Amit,
Share details please and let me know if you need any information.
We are planning a 9 day trip to Sikkim starting on the 1st of January 2017. We are a group of 10 adults and 3 children smallest one being 18 months old.How to best plan our trip with detailed itinerary. Do we need to make any special arrangements for our little ones.
Check your inbox please.
Please suggest cheap and Best tour and travel agent for north sikkim including baba mandir
Baba Mandir is not in north Sikkim. There are 2 Baba Mandirs in east Sikkim. The new one can be visited on a day trip from Gangtok but the actual (Adi) Baba Mandir is located far beyond along Silk Route on way to Kupup. You can cover the Adi or old Baba Mandir if you visit Silk Route from Gangtok. Silk Route would need minimum 3 nights to cover major spots.
North Sikkim can be visited on 2 nights – 3 days trip. Let me know if you are looking for only north Sikkim package or anything else like Gangtok hotel, day trip to Tsomgo Lake and new Baba Mandir, etc. I will suggest accordingly.
we are 5 friends from punjab and want to explore sikkim in January and we hve 15 days aprox. and we want full adventures and want to see nathu la pass, baba mandir etc… plz suggest
Already replied to your mail. Check your inbox plz.

Hello sir
We are nearly 5-6 people
Planning to visit sikkim specially gangtok and northern sikkim during jan-mar 2017.
We would love to see the snow.
Can you please suggest the best compact afordable budget for our journey?
We donot need high class hotels or dining.
Do reply
Hello! It can be 4 nights at Gangtok and 2 nights in north Sikkim. Check your inbox for details.
Hey we are a group of 5-6 people and willthe reach gangtok on 25 of Jan.
We are planning 6-7 days trip and aim to cover as much locations as possible.
Kindly send me the necessary details including costs
I need the date of your arrival and departure from station/airport. Need the same to make a plan for you. I can’t plan anything unless I know your number of night stays.
I can share approx. expenses only when there is a plan and I can plan only when I know your number of nights.
Hi Avijit,
I need some suggestions from you. Actually we are reaching gangtok on 19th Feb 2017 and comming back on 25th Feb. The List of Places we want to visit are as follows:
1. Gurudungwar Lake
2. Zuluk and Nathang Valley.
3. Ravangla and Namchi.
Thus i need some suggestion from you and also the approximate costs for visiting the above places. If you want to suggest any other places other than the above mentioned places then let kindly me know.
Unfortunately you will not be able to reach Gurduongmar Lake in north Sikkim. There is already heavy snow and it will remain till mid-March. One can only reach upto villages of Lachen and Lachung but one can’t go for sightseeing to places like Gurduongmar Lake, Zero Point, Yumthang valley, etc. It is better if you avoid north Sikkim completely in Feb.
Zuluk and Nathang Valley are located along Silk Route in east Sikkim. The road from Gangtok to Rongli or vise-versa is named as Silk Route and these hamlets like Zuluk and Nathang Valley are located on way in middle. The region receives heavy snowfall too in wineter and the roads are blocked already. You will not be able to reach upto Nathang Valley. You can reach upto Padamchen (this is the place I stay if I visit in winter) and go for sightseeing along Silk Route upto the reachable point and then return to Padamchen. You can then take another route (via Rongpo) to reach Gangtok from Silk Route. You can stay at Reshikhola and Padamchen before you move to Gangtok.
Instead of north Sikkim, you can cover Pelling. If you can let me know how many nights you have in hand, I can plan you accordingly.
Hello Sir,
We are planning to spend some good times in Sikkim this late January. We are 5 person in total and planning to stay there for 3 days and 2 nights. We will be arriving from Guwahati ,Assam . It would be great to visit all the best places within a budget of Rs.15000 per head. None of us has ever been there. So its pretty confusing how to plan for the trip to Sikkim. we would be grateful to you if you give us some information , ideas about the trip and packages.
Thanking you
2 nights – 3 days is just nothing. You can cover only Gangtok and surrounding areas. You can stay 2 nights at Gangtok and go for sightseeing, enjoy rope-way ride, taste local delicacies, etc. You will not need that much of budget per head just for 2 nights. Number of days is the factor.
Hello, Abhijit,
I am planing for Sikkim tour for 6 days 5 nights in Mid April. Firstly i want to know if it is possible to visit North sikkim and Nathula Pass at that time as there are so many problems for weather. And snow fall can we see in that particular period.
We are 12 in number and one child. We are planing to go to lachen & lachung tour with Nathula Pass. Our budget is not too much. can u tell me how much will be the approx. expense…so that we can plan properly.
April is a good time to visit Sikkim. It will peak season so be ready for hiked tariffs and car expenses. Yes, you can visit north Sikkim places. As you are 12 in number, you will need 2 cars. Permission for Nathula Pass depends. You will have to check for it after you reach there and your hotel desk or driver can manage a permit for you.
I want to visit Gangtok, Lachung, Pelling, Ravangla in 4 night 4 day. Please suggest a tour plan.
Gangtok needs minimum 3 nights, Pelling needs minimum 2 nights, Ravangla needs minimum 1 night. If you want to visit Lachunh, it will need 1 nights stay there and along with that you will have to manage 1 more night at Gangtok. All places needs separate stays. The places mentioned by you can’t be covered in just 4 nights – 5 days. Let me know if you want me to plan for you.
Hello Abhijit,
I am from Mumbai and planning to visit Sikkim and Darjeeling 12 to 20 May- 2017. Our return flight is booked from Bagdogra on 20th. Reaching at NJP Station by train on 12th early morning. We are 4 (2+2). Want to visit Gangtok, Nathula, latching, yumthangvally, pelling and Darjeeling.
Please suggest Itinerary and package tours operators.
Thank you.
Plz check your inbox.
Hello, Abhijit sir, we are 11 people including a kid of 7 years, planning a trip to sikkim and darjeeling on may 22nd to 27th, that is we will reach NJP on 22nd may by 8AM and we got reserved on 27th 19.45 from NJP, we have only 6 days and 5nights,can you please provide me with best itinerary so that our trip is going to be a memorable experience. Thank you, waiting for the reply.
Sure, I can. You can spend 3 nights at Gangtok and 2 nights at Darjeeling. I will mail you the detail trip itinerary. Do check your inbox and revert back there with your feedback.
Hi Abhijit
Planning for Sikkim from 9th Feb to 15 Feb we r 2 and plz help me plan interested to go north Sikkim too
Most of places in north Sikkim will remain blocked in Feb due to snowfall.
we are reached 9 april at new jalpaiguri rly station then want to visit darjeeling gangtok with nathula pass andon 15 april at 7am will be on new jalpaiguri rly station pls suggest me any budget package available for this
I don’t suggest visiting Nathula Pass with that age kid. The place is located at a very high altitude. If you have got return train on at 7 am in morning on 15th April, make sure you stay previous night (14th April) at Siliguri or at any hotel near NJP station. Siliguri is 30 minutes drive from NJP.
As you reach NJP on 9th April and as you have to return to NJP or Siliguri by 14th April, you have 5 nights – 6 days in hand for the trip. You can spend 2 nights in Darjeeling and 3 nights in Gangtok.
a 2.5yr old child can visit nathula pass in april month pls suggest
I don’t suggest. Such a small kid you are carrying. Visit low altitude places like Gangtok, Pelling.
Hi Abhijit,
Great that you are so active with this blog.Really appreciate the efforts you take to reply each query.
I would like to get your advise on the following points.
We are 3 adults(wife and daughter) reaching Bagdogra from Mumbai on 8th April 2017 at 13.00 hrs and returning from there on 17th April 2017 at 13.25 flight.
1.Suggest an itinerary for us which includes North Sikkim
2.Suggest names of hotels to stay.Minimum 3 star standard
3.Would you suggest we book a package for our entire stay in Sikkim,if yes could you suggest the names of the operators.
4.If you suggest our own planning ,then how to book transportation within Sikkim.
5.How to arrange internal permits?
Thank you so much for your kind words and appreciation. I can surely help you out with all details you need. Please check your inbox. I have mailed.
I would like to make a plan for north Sikkim in May this year with my 7 years old child along with my friend family with their 3 years child. Is it possible to make a tour program on this time. Or we have to restrict our plan.
Pl give ur valuable suggestion. My mob no- 9434239890
You will not get permit to visit Gurudongmar Lake in north Sikkim with kids below 6 years of age. Even if you had permission, I wouldn’t have suggested because there can be breathing and other problems related to high altitude sickness. North Sikkim is not a great destinations if you are traveling with kids. Zero Point is another point visited from Lachung in north Sikkim. This spot is also located at a very high altitude. If you are planning Sikkim, there are many other places to visit which are worth visiting and beautiful but not at a very high altitude. Let me know if you want me to make a plan for you. You can call me or mail me at “uvreachedavi@gmail.com” for further details.
Firstly Thank you so much for your suggestions. Actually my son is very keen to see snow. So we’re making this plan.
Hi Abhijit,
Hope you are doing fine..
I would like to get your advise on the following points.
We are 5 adults(Family with 3 male and 2 female) reaching NJP from Kolkata on 8th April 2017 Morning and will catch train on 12th April 2017.
1.Suggest an itinerary for us which includes North Sikkim or South Sikkim.
2.Would you suggest we book a package for our entire stay in Sikkim,if yes could you suggest the names of the operators.
3.If you suggest our own planning ,then how to book transportation within Sikkim.
5.How to arrange internal permits?
waiting for your response.
Hello!
If you are reaching NJP on 8th April and have return train on 12th April, it makes a 4 nights – 5 days. It is not feasible to cover both north and south Sikkim. To visit north Sikkim you must visit Gangtok. The day you reach Gangtok, you can set off for north Sikkim only next day. The day you return from north Sikkim, you will have no option but to stay overnight at Gangtok only.
The trip plan can be:
8th April: Reach NJP, transfer to Gangtok, stroll around, O/N stay at Gangtok
9th April: Check-out and transfer to Lachen, O/N stay at Lachen
10th April: Visit Thangu, Chopta Valley, Gurudongmar Lake, transfer to Lachung, O/N stay at Lachung
11th April: Visit Yumthang Valley, Zero Point and Hot Spring, transfer to Gangtok by evening, O/N stay at Gangtok
12th April: Check-out and transfer to NJP
For the above trip, you must have a hotel booked in Gangtok for 8th and 11th April. You can not visit north Sikkim without permit and permits are given to authorized agents only. You can either book your own hotel at Lachung and Lachen and hire a car separately. This would quite expensive.
It is better you go on a package that includes the permit, transport and lodging. You can’t get this on your own, so you have to reply on tour operators or hotel owners at Gangtok.
I would suggest you to book a hotel in Gangtok and get this north Sikkim package of 2 nights – 3 days from the Gangtok hotel desk. There would be no hassles and cost would be low.
You can get hundreds of Gangtok hotels and tour operators online but in case you need I can connect you to the owner of the hotel in Gangtok I know. He can manage your stays at Gangtok and can also manage a trip to north Sikkim including everything. Let me know if you would like to speak to him.
Share your feedback and I would suggest further accordingly.
Hi Abhijit!! First of all thanks for the awesome article. I am planning to visit Kolkata and Sikkim with my girlfriend for 5 day trip from Bangalore. First two days I will stay in Kolkata and then the next three days in Sikkim and then come back to Bangalore. Can you please suggest me places in Sikkim which I can cover in 3 days, And how I will travel from place to place, hotels in Sikkim etc.I am planning to go in May/June.
You can stay 3 nights in Gangtok only and go around nearby places on sightseeing. You can hire a small car which can pick you up from NJP station and drop you there after the trip. You can use the same car for local sightseeing in Gangtok too. I can plan you a trip itinerary for Sikkim for that I would need your dates and time of arrival and departure from NJP station/airport. You can mail me all details. I would suggest further accordingly.
Dear Mr. Abhijit Gupta

hi Mr. abhijit, u r doing a wonderful job by helping people like us. we are 5 members want to visit sikkim with maximum places tht we can cover. we r reaching in NJP on 26th March @ 5:30pm, & departure on 1st April @ 5.00pm frm Bagdogra. sports & adventures activities not in our list. but live to touch all the places whrever a for wheel can go. but completely confused with so many places & permission & routes & choices too. we prefer to stay in 2-3* hotels only. we really failed to make an proper itinerary. kindly help as accommodation yet to book.
thanx & regards
As you would reach by 6.30 pm, it will already be dark and it is not safe to travel at night along those hill roads with sharp bends. You should stay overnight at any hotel near NJP station or at Siliguri. You can set off for Gangtok next day early morning.
I have mailed you in detail. Please check your inbox.
Hello Abhijit
I plan to travel to Sikkim with my family (myself, my wife, my 2 kids and senior citizen parents). 7 nights/8 days is what I am looking at.
Considering the weather now, do you think, North sikkim will still have snow covered mountains?
Also, can you please suggest an itinerary for sikkim, North Sikkim and Peling?
How are the options for Vegetarians? Are there any reliable tour operators who can provide their service?
Request your response as soon as you can
Before I plan you any itinerary, let me know the ages of your kids. You would not get permit for Gurduongmar Lake in north Sikkim with kids below 6 years of age. It is not a great idea to visit Gurduongmar Lake or Zero Point in north Sikkim with senior citizens. Oxygen level is too low at these high altitude places and the roads to these spots are not in great shape.
You can get veg food everywhere. You juts need to inform in advance. Once you reply, I would revert back accordingly.
Hi Abhijit,
We are a group of 5 people who are planning to travel to Sikkim in last week of March. We have thought of the following itinerary:
Day1: Reach Bagdogra/NJP and travel to Gangtok (overnight stay).
Day 2: Sightseeing in Gangtok
Day 3: Nathula Pass and Baba Mandir one day trip
Day 4: Travel to Lachen: Overnight stay
Day 5: Travel to Lachung: Overnight stay
Day 6: Sightseeing at Yumthang and travel to Gangtok – Night stay at Gangtok
Day 7: Gangtok to Bagdogra/NJP
Could you please suggest of budget hotels and transportation? Any other suggestions are also welcomed.
Thank you for your help.
Regards,
Shubham
There are 2 options of transport. Shared or reserved. As you are 5 in number, it is better you reserve a car for all transports but if you are on budget, you can use shared cars wherever possible or available. For north Sikkim trip (2 nights – 3 days), you can take a package from Gangtok hotel (Gangtok to Gangtok). That would be more helpful. It is better you book all your needs from same point of contact for better coordination.
Dear Mr. Abhijit Gupta,
Me my husband and son (15 years) are planning to visit Sikkim from 29/03 – 06/04. We are visiting Sikkim for the first time. We want to see all important places in Sikkim. In just 5-6 days you can’t even cover only Sikkim. north-east means states like Sikkim, West Bengal(north), Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Assam, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh. One would need at least 1 month to go around all these places and touch the most visited destination. Only for Sikkim, one would need at least 15-16 nights to cover most of tourist destinations other than trekking routes.
As you have only 5-6 days in hand, I would suggest you to focus on Sikkim only. You can cover Gangtok + Pelling or Gangtok + North Sikkim. Gangtok would need 3 nights, Pelling would need 2 nights, north Sikkim would need 2 nights. Let me know what you decide. If you want to cover Darjeeling, it would need 2 nights minimum. If you want to cover Darjeeling and Sikkim, you can stay 2 nights at Darjeeling and 3 nights at Gangtok.
Share your feedback and I would suggest further accordingly.

Hello, I can’t make a plan unless you share your travel dates/time. I would need certain other details too. Please revert back to my mail. I would suggest further accordingly.
may i know the package for north sikkim from gangtok for 2 r 3 days trip.
North Sikkim package for 2 nights-3 days should be around Rs 3,500-4,000 per head for budget package and Rs 4,500-5,000 for a better package and there can be more luxurious packages. Any package below Rs 3,500 per head would not be good enough.

The cost of the trip would highly depend on number of persons in your group. I am not sure how many are there in your group. The plan looks okay. Share the total number of persons and then only I can share an estimate or budget.

hi Abhijit, Good morning.
We are a family of four. Husband and wife and two almost adult children. planning to reach Gangtok on 24th or 25th December, 2017. I think, being Christmas days, is it right to visit at that time. is it really heavy crowd on christmas days. Otherwise, we would like to visit Gangtok, Yumthang, Lachung on a 4 days/5 nights trip. Pls advise me. Thank you
Gangtok is never a peaceful and serene place. Being the capital of Sikkim, the place always attracts tourist and travelers from across Sikkim and other parts of the globe. I have been to Gangtok quite a few times during Christmas and I found the place to be quite enjoyable. Yes, there would be high traffic but hope that you would love the place. Lachen and Lachung are located in north Sikkim. North Sikkim would need 2 nights-3 days. So if you want to cover north Sikkim, you can give 2 nights to north Sikkim (Lachen and Lachung each) and 2 nights to Gangtok. Make sure you have your hotel booked in advance.
thanks a lot. it is highly valuable information. so kind of you.
Now, my plan is to reach gangtok by 23rd december 2017 evening. on 24th – local and visit to western sikkim (to see kanchenzong Mt). 25th and 26th Lachen, Lachung and Yumthang, if possible zero point too. on 27th – adventure activities such as paragliding, etc. on 28th morning to leave gangtok for bagdogra to catch delhi flight.
I hope this make our trip full.. However, if you feel you may please add a few important points/sites to visit, which we may miss.
thank you
This is a good plan. Go for it. If you could manage 1 more night, you could have visited Tsomgo Lake (Changu), Baba Mandir and Nathula pass. These 3 points take a full day. Good luck and have a memorable trip ahead. Are your bookings done? If not yet, let me know. I can connect you to owners of the properties I stay and I feel you would love those too. Transport can be managed too.

Hi Abhijit
It’s Somnath from kolkata.
i want to visit Sikkim with my family around march to April.
plz. guide me about sikkim tour
1. favorable time to visit total sikkim
2. about hotel booking how, where & for how many days i have to book hotels
3. transport etc.
4. how many days are required to complete the tour etc.
Thanking You
Hello Somnath! Wish I could reply earlier. Sincere apologies for not responding earlier.
April is really a very good time to visit Sikkim. Best time would be from April to May or from October to December.
I must tell you that you would require more than a month holiday to cover all parts of Sikkim other than trek routes which would require more time. So let’s not move this way. tell me how many nights your can spare. I would suggest accordingly. If you are looking for a family trip to Sikkim and if this is your first trip there, you can cover Gangtok, north Sikkim (lachen and Lachung) and Pelling. You would need 4 nights for Gnagtok, 2 nights for North Sikkim and 2 nights for Pelling which makes it a 8 nights – 9 days tour plan to Sikkim.
Let me if that is okay to you. I can then suggest you accordingly. You can write back to me or call me on 9831540384 to discuss further in detail.

Hi, we are 6 people & will be in sikkim on 26 dec, Need itinerary for 6 days covering north & east sikkim.
Dear Niket,
Thank you for reaching out to TravelDias. I would love to help you.
North Sikkim needs 2 nights-3 days trip from Gangtok to cover all places of interests. The trip requires 1 night stay at Lachen and the 2nd night stay at Lachung. Full day sightseeing is done from these two places. In December end, there is 50:50 chances of doing sightseeing because all places remain blocked due to heavy snowfall. You can surely visit Lachena and Lachung for overnight stays and you would get snow there too but as far as doing sightseeing is concerned, as I said the chances are 50:50.
As far as east Sikkim (Silk Route) is concerned, you can visit the place but there is also 50:50 chances of covering the entire Silk Route though you can visit most of places and experience snow there. You can cover the places which would remain accessible along Silk Route and then transfer to any other region.
You can directly mail me at ‘uvreachedavi@gmail.com’ for further information or call me on 9831540384 to discuss in detail. I would gladly help you.
Thanks,
Abhijit

Hi Abhijit !
This article of yours really has a detailed travel guide of a trip to Sikkim. I wish I would have read this article before I planned my trip to Sikkim. I travelled to Sikkim for 10 days last year in November from Hyderabad.
Thanks Arvind! You can reach out to me next time you make a plan to visit this part of India.
i am planing a trip to sikkim for 8 days for 2 ppl . Please suggest best possible economical itinerary
i am planing a trip to sikkim for 8 days for 2 ppl . Please suggest best possible economical itinerary..
ignore earlier post wrong mail id mentioned
The most economical itinerary for 8 days in Sikkim would be:
NJP/Bagdogra >> Gangtok (2 nights) >> North Sikkim trip (2 nights) >> Gangtok (1 night) >> Pelling (2 nights)
It makes 7 nights – 8 days trip. Avail shared cars for your journeys:
1. NJP and Gangtok
2. Gangtok and Pelling
3. Pelling to NJP
You should also avail a north Sikkim package trip for 2 nights – 3 days from your Gangtok hotel’s travel desk or any local tour agent in Gangtok. This would be most economical. The package should include your transport (including permits), accommodation, food and sightseeing. The package should be Gangtok to Gangtok. If you have any further query, do not hesitate to mail me directly. My e-mail is ‘uvreachedavi@gmail.com’
