Murti in Dooars

Murti is a picturesque place of interest in Dooars region of north Bengal for the travellers who are nature lovers. Murti is the paradise for the nature lovers and the environmentalists. Murti is a must viist place in your Dooars tour plan. The hilly river Murti makes the place an awesome one with greenery on its banks. The river has got good current in rainy season but in rest of the time a bath in the knee deep crystal clear water of the river is must for the tourists. Travelers looking for jungle safari in Gorumara National Park can spend a couple of days in Murti before heading towards jungle safari and can go for sight-seeing around the place. Travelers looking for peace, serenity and the thrill of forest must visit Murti. Gorumara National Park entry point is just a few kilometers away from Murti and there are many spots and places of interest that a traveler can visit by hiring a car.

Murti – How To Reach

Kanchan Kanya Express departs from Sealdah at 8.30 in the evening and reaches New Mal Junction around 12.30pm next day. This is the best train from Kolkata as the train takes you through the dense forest and tunnels and at the best time in the morning. The train journey is another memorable experience that a traveler would find. Once the train leaves NJP station, it takes the route through the jungles and tunnels. On both side you find tall trees and signboards displaying the text “Elephant Corridor”. If you are lucky enough, you can spot an elephant or a group of it. You can even spot a peacock or a bison through the windows of the train. I would suggest you to be ready with your lenses to take the snap.

Murti – Hiring a car for sight-seeing

Once you reach New Mal Junction and put your feet out of the station, you would find cabs are waiting outside. Drivers would approach you to take a car. A Maruti Omini ( Seating capacity – 8 ) takes around Rs. 400 to drop you in your resort at Murti. I would suggest you to take a car for the whole trip, that means the car takes you to Murti, takes you for sight-seeing and other spots to visit and stays with you at night. I suggest this because it can be a great help in case of any emergency anytime. Apart from this you can ask your driver to take you out at night in the street through the forest and experience the thrill of night life in such a dense forest. For this you need to manage your resort manager because they usually don’t allow guests to step out at night.

In Dooars, You can hire a dry car with driver on a full day basis and the car would be with you at night. They charge around Rs. 1,200 for a dry car on a full day basis and you are supposed to pay the fuel charges assuming that the car runs 10km on 1 liter of fuel on average. Night charge for the driver is Rs. 100-150.

Activities I had enjoyed in Murti:

  • A dip in the crystal clear water of the hilly river Murti
  • Strolling around the place and clicking some fantastic snaps
  • Camp fire at night with dinner at the resort
  • Slideshow of wild animals and forest arranged by the resort
  • Taking out the car at night to travel through the dense forest

Points to be remembered

  • While traveling, ask your driver to drive slowly. It would increase your chances of spotting a wild animal.
  • Do not tease or disturb any wild animal. You must watch and observe the nature silently.
  • Please keep the forest clean. Do not litter with plastic, paper, water bottles etc.
  • Listen to your driver. He would be the best companion cum guide.
  • Follow the guidelines provided by the guide when you go inside the jungle
