ย The Silk Route Resort

I visited Limtang in November,2011. Limtang is a remote hamlet in the eastern part of Sikkim. It is accessible by road but there is no direct transport to the location from NJP or Siliguri. One has to go up to Rongli in shared jeep and then take another jeep up to Limtang. Mostly vilagers and daily passengers use this mode of transport. If you are travelling in group or with your family for a vacation, I would refer you to take a pick up vehicle which can be arranged by the resort authority on demand. Limtang is an offbeat destination in Sikkim and an exotic location too. In winter the weather is chilled and the other months have favorable weather and climatic conditions. It is a must visit destination and one must stay at least two nights here as we did. If you like peace, want to feel the silence of the hills and want to spend one more nights in place where there is no noise and no one to disturb you, you can visit Limtang.

The Silk Route Resort is the only property in Limtang. There are house stays but I would refer a stay at the Silk Route Resort. The hotel is sorrounded by hills and a small valley at a side where there are a few huts occupied by the most innocent and loveliest people on earth. All the rooms in the hotel have balconies which give you a fantastic scenic view of the hills with a gorge on the right side. The hotel is under construction as the floors are being raised but the first floor rooms are ready to give you comfort with the best scenic view outside.

We had four rooms in the first floor as we were in a group of ten people. Each room had a tariff of Rs.1,000 per day on negotiation. We were relieved from the 10% extra charges on further negotiations such as service charge. The rooms are really decorated and the stuffs are very helpful too. There are two or three stalls including a wine shop at a few minute walking distance from the hotel where the villagers buy there amenities from.

Food at the hotel is available on demand. One has to have food at the hotel because there is no other option. You don’t find any luxury that you can get in a town. One has to order the requirement well in advance. Every dish you order is enough to distribute among two or three heads. Bengali and Chinese food is available on demand. There is no one for just cooking purpose but most of the stuffs try their hands and all of them are really good in preparing the delicious dishes for you. The average cost of a meal is Rs.120-130 and the average cost of breakfast is Rs.60-70

The hotel staff can arrange for a camp fire on demand. They usually take around Rs.500 for the arrangement. They can arrange for snacks and any food that you want for the camp fire.

Tariff:

Rs.1,000 per day per room
10% service charge ( one can get relief from this on negotiationn)
10% service charge on food (negotiable)

Pick up jeep:

The hotel authority can arrange a pick up van for you on demand. It takes Rs.3,000 for a pick up from NJP railway station.
